Yet Another Half-Crazed Rant
by bassgravi

I do not understand the atheist, who denies there is a God. I do not understand the agnostic, who wavers back and forth wondering what and whom to believe, yet I have hope for both of these.

I do not understand how any who have heard the gospel can deny it for the entirety of their lives.

In a world where people believe they are entitled, where people are encouraged to believe in the individual, in their self and lives and we are taught that everyone is unique, special and important – and yet we fight depression and suicide – I do not understand why it is not more encouraged to say among these confirmations of man's own greatness that we have all this wonderful potential because, if we accept the gift into our hearts, we will essentially have the omnipotent, omniscient Creator of the Universe - Who dreamed everything in the world and made it so by His simple command – at our very beck and call, paving the paths for our lives, leading us in the direction of truth, peace, happiness, success, love, freedom, liberty, equality…all of our basic needs, and then some for the price of our faith. For the price that we believe in Him and His power so that He is enabled to work in our lives and show others His greatness, and obey His laws so that we may be good people, good examples, and good for the people and world around us. Really, when you think about it, despite the great temptation at times, is it so much for Him to ask that we be kind, that we do not break the laws our government has put before us for our well-being, that we do not break His commandments – which, when you think about it are some of the best ideas society could hope to follow through with – is it so much to ask when His promise and repayment of our striving efforts to follow, trust, and believe in Him will be eternal life, and freedom from every emotional, physical and mental pain or affliction that can be encountered on this earth?

Why – in a world where people are taught that they deserve and are entitled to everything, is it not so easily taught (and accepted) that they are entitled to have the All-Knowing, All-Powerful, All-Mighty Creator watching over them, protecting them, guiding them, and offering them an eternity of happiness in His loving presence. Why is it so hard for a self-loving society to believe that they have the love of a beneficent God?

I cannot myself comprehend the mercy, love, and compassion of my God, but I know that you don't have to be able to pilot a 747 to ride on a plane – and I trust Him to take me safely to where He wants me to be; and I'll tell you, He's much more deserving of that trust than that human airplane pilot – and you probably don't walk up to him and shake his hand any more than you walk up to God and shake His hand, and yet you'd trust that unseen pilot with your very life, but not the Divine Creator?

I may not know God's plan – in fact, there are many things that I don't know and never will – but I know that it seems the most logical thing in the world to trust in Him.

After all…if that atheist is right, and I'm wrong then we'll die and never know, but if I'm right, and he's wrong then I'm going to spend an eternity by the very throne of God as His very own precious child, and that atheist is going to be in hell, cut off from the love that is so freely and generously being offered today.

So, though it may not mean much coming from some crazy 19-year-old college student in Texas, but think about it, because I'm much more than a 19-year-old-college student, I'm a sinner, tested and failed, granted mercy and love because Christ looked ahead thousands of years, saw me, and believed with all of his (perfect) loving, heart that I was worth dying for – that He would go through hell, literally…for a half-crazy 19-year-old college student in Texas that would see His promise at 13, and say "I love you, too."
